Hedge
Planting a hedge is slightly different from planting of single shrub or a group.
- see article on this topic.
You should be very responsible in the choice of planting material for the hedge. Typically, the best choice is coniferous trees with close root system or deciduous one with an open root system. It should be strong and healthy seedlings in age of 3-4 years for conifers and 2-3 years for deciduous.
It is better to plant hedge in the spring. You can plant grown-up trees, but they are significantly worse in acclimatization, and additionally quite money-taking method.
If you plan to combine different types of plants in the hedge, you need to think of ways of their combination, taking into account the growth rate and compatibility.
Technologically, the hedge planting provides as follows:
- Trench of 40-50 centimeters in width and depth of 50-60 centimeters preparation (if you use a multilane planting, add 30-40 cm for each next lane);
- Soil preparation: fertile soil mixed with peat or humus, mineral fertilizers are added, normal acidity of the soil provided;
- The trench filled with prepared mix covered it with height of 15 cm above the soil level;
- Set marking stakes, twine stretched between them
- Planting holes dig along the twine (or in a checkerboard pattern in case of multilane planting)
The planting of shrubs for the hedge processed equially of any other shrubs, but you need to prune them at a height of about 20-40 centimeters (if the planting materials were not prepared in advance for hedge). It is also useful to mulch the soil around the roots with sawdust or special granules for mulching.
After the hedge planting you need to water abundantly with addition of growth stimulators.
